Definition
Intrastat is the European Union system used to collect statistical information on the movement of goods between EU Member States. It allows national authorities and Eurostat to monitor intra-EU trade and produce detailed statistics on the flow of goods across European borders.
Businesses may be required to submit Intrastat declarations when the value of their arrivals or dispatches of goods exceeds the reporting thresholds set by the relevant Member State. These thresholds, reporting requirements, and deadlines vary from one country to another.
An Intrastat declaration generally includes information such as the type and value of the goods, commodity codes, country of origin or destination, transport details, and the nature of the transaction.
Intrastat is separate from VAT reporting, although the information declared may be connected to transactions also reported in VAT returns or other intra-EU reporting obligations. Companies trading goods across several EU countries may therefore have both VAT and Intrastat compliance requirements.
ASC Consulting supports international companies with Intrastat registration, reporting, VAT compliance, and other cross-border obligations across multiple European jurisdictions.
